biography:
Melissa Kritsotakis is an internationally acclaimed fashion designer whose work fuses timeless
femininity with intuitive artistry and conscious design. A graduate of the University of
Technology Sydney, where she was named Student of the Year in 2004, her debut collection—
distinguished by hand-dyed silks and sculptural copper detailing—immediately captured global
attention, with pieces exhibited in museums worldwide.
Her trajectory accelerated when a portfolio sent to Roberto Cavalli earned her a personal
invitation to join his First Line Design team in Florence. Recognized as “his discovery,” she
became renowned for her extraordinary textile manipulation, earning the nickname “the hands.”
Within a year, her designs became record-breaking bestsellers, featured on the runways of Milan
Fashion Week and worn on the Oscars red carpet.
In 2009, she launched her eponymous label in Sydney, cultivating a devoted international
clientele drawn to her rare, hand-painted silk creations—each piece an enduring work of art. A
transformative journey to the United States in 2013 expanded her vision, ultimately leading her
to Los Angeles and a broader creative horizon.
In 2015, a collaboration in The Bahamas with underwater photographer Elena Kalis sparked a
defining evolution in her work, merging fashion with the fluidity of the ocean and igniting a deep
commitment to sustainability through couture crafted from reclaimed silks. By 2017, she had
established a global presence, with collections presented in New York and featured across film,
music, and leading editorial platforms.
In 2024, after focusing on her best creations- her two daughters, she was invited by Ocean Rising
to present her new collection at the Waves of Change event for sustainable fashion at Casa Del
Mar in Santa Monica. The following year, her iconic “Mermaid Gown”—originally created in
her 2004 debut—made a powerful return on the Grammys red carpet, reaffirming its status as a
signature masterpiece and timeless fashion.
Kritsotakis designs from a place of deep intuition and energetic awareness, channeling a
powerful feminine essence that defines her signature aesthetic. Her creations embody a modern
goddess—ethereal, radiant, and unapologetically powerful—blending strength with sensuality.
Known for her masterful use of color, flow and sculptural forms, her work evokes movement,
spirit, and a magnetic presence that feels both otherworldly and grounded in feminine power.
Now entering a defining new chapter, she continues her pursuit of sustainable luxury—where
artistry, intention, and innovation converge. Each creation is an embodiment of the feminine
divine: embodying inner power, and evoking the presence of a goddess. Her work is not only
seen, but felt—leaving a lasting, unforgettable imprint.
